Household Hazardous Waste

Just click the links for the information you need.
This valuable public program is supported by the Livingston County Board of Commissioners and the Livingston County Drain Commissioner’s office and staff. With additional support and cooperation from the townships, we are able to offer battery collection sites, notification of events, and participation from staff and volunteers.
The collection events are free to Livingston County residents. However, donations will be accepted on collection events to offset the costs of hazardous waste removal by a vendor. As always, in order to participate in the program for Household Hazardous Waste collection, an appointment must be made in advance for one of the three appointed events.
There are only 3 (three) HHW collection events a year. Making an appointment assists staff in facilitating traffic, and allows time for safe removal of chemicals from the vehicles. Thank you for your cooperation. We appreciate your support and participating in these valuable events.
The best way for you to reduce waste: Buy only what you can use and use up what you buy. If you have excess product left over, see if someone you know can use it.
How Do I recycle……
6. Prescription Medications - Big Red Barrels (Also, see the Livingston Guide to Reuse, Reduce, Recycle and Safe Disposal. The link is below.)
7. TVs, Computers, Electronics - Livingston County Solid Waste Program has two free collection events a year to collect these items. Recycle Livingston will take the electronics for a small car fee. Check with Staples in Howell. Check with Best Buy in Brighton.
Need Directions for the Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off Sites?
Click here for a google map to the Howell collection site. We share a parking lot with the Animal Control Dept. at 418 S. Highlander Way, Howell, 48843
The Green Oak site is located on a vacant fenced in lot just west of the Green Oak Fire Hall at the corner of Alan Drive and 11411 Grand River, Brighton 48116. PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF ITEMS except on appointed days and times. We do not have a facility large enough to stockpile items. All household hazardous waste is removed by a vendor the same day it arrives from residents. Please do not drop items at any other time, this would be considered littering and making the area unsafe. Thank you.
