A court may utilize an informal procedure contained in
the Juvenile Code for certain criminal traffic violations. If you are a
juvenile (under 17 years of age) and reside in Livingston County then the
traffic ticket will be processed by the Livingston County Juvenile Court.
Under MCL 712A.2b, if a violation of the
Michigan Vehicle Code is alleged:
The court will schedule the matter for an informal
hearing.
We require that you (juvenile) and one parent appear for the informal hearing
to be held by a referee at the Livingston County Juvenile Court, Judicial
Center Building, 204 S. Highlander Way, Suite 3, Howell, MI 48843.
If the court finds that the allegation is true, it may
impose a disposition, possible dispositions are:
- dismissal
- assessment of fines and costs
- Secretary of State notification
- a period of informal Court supervision with terms
- transfer unto the Court's formal docket
- referral to the Diversion Program
Failure to appear as noticed may result in the traffic
ticket being transferred to the courts formal docket and suspension of your
license until said matter is resolved.
