HiLand Lake is a 123 acre lake located near
Pinckney, Michigan. The lake is shallow
where the depth averages 5 feet with a maximum water depth of 12 feet. The lake is located in section 32 of Putnam
Township in Livingston County and sections 5 and 6 of Dexter Township in
Washtenaw County. This lake is part of the Portage Creek watershed that is
comprised of a 6 lake chain. HiLand Lake
is the last lake in this chain where it is technically an impoundment of the
Portage River with a dam located on the northeast side of the lake. The lake
level is maintained by the Livingston County Drain Commissioner’s Office in
accordance with a court order.
The HiLand Lake Improvement Board was
established under Part 309 of the Natural Resources and Environmental
Protection Act (NREPA). Formation of the
HLIB was initiated by petition of the residents where creation of the board
occurred in March, 2019.
