Emergency Notice

Due to the recent declaration of a State of Emergency in Michigan declared by Governor Gretchen Whitmer regarding coronavirus known as COVID-19, the Michigan Supreme Court has authorized trial courts to implement emergency measures to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus and provide the greatest protection possible to those who work and have business in our courts, Effective immediately, the Friend of the Court office is closed to the public until further notice.

Residents having business with the Friend of the Court are encouraged to utilize the alternative resources, such as email, telephone, and the MiChildSupport website.


Attention

In light of the Governor's "shelter in place" Executive Order, the Livingston County Friend of the Court has been receiving calls from parents regarding custody, parenting time and child support. The Executive Order 2020-21(7)(b)(4) states that individuals may also travel as required by law enforcement or a court order, including the transportation of children pursuant to a custody agreement. The Livingston County Friend of the Court (FOC) is dedicated to preserving the best interests of children in a respectful manner within the Statutes and Court Rules as defined by the Michigan Legislature and the Michigan Supreme Court. The duties of the FOC office include: conducting investigations and making recommendations to the court regarding child custody, parenting time, child support, and domicile matters. In cooperation with the Michigan State Disbursement Unit (MiSDU), the FOC collects, records, and distributes support payments as ordered by the court.
