Am I eligible for transportation?,
All honorably discharged veterans and spouses residing within Livingston County are eligible for our transportation. A copy of the veteran's dd-214 or VA medical card will need to be presented to driver upon first pick up to verify eligibility. Driver will send a copy to the office to keep on file.
Where can I go?,
Transportation is for in-county medical appointments and appointments to the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center only. Occasionally, we will utilize our transportation for rides to and from our office appointments.
What are your hours of operation?,
Our transportation is somewhat flexible. We do ask that you attempt to make all VA appointments no later than 3 p.m. as we try to limit driving in afternoon rush hour traffic. Transportation does not run on weekends or County holidays and may be cancelled due to inclement weather.
How do I schedule transportation?,
We request 48 hours notice. Anything within 48 hours will be subject to availability. You MUST call our office to schedule transportation. Drivers DO NOT schedule. If you tell the driver you need transportation but don't call the office, you will not be picked up. Our office is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m-5 p.m. We are closed noon to one for lunch and all County holidays. Our office phone number is 517-546-6338. If no one answers, please leave a message. Our transportation coordinator, Kelly is great at returning calls in a timely fashion. She will call you back to confirm time, date and address.
Where are your pick up and drop off locations?,
We are a door to door service. Our drivers will pick you up from the address given when transportation is scheduled. Pick up and drop off locations must be within Livingston County. You may also opt to be picked up in our office parking lot.
What should I expect when I ride with Veterans' Services?,
We have two AMAZING drivers, Jon and Tom. When riding with us you can expect compassionate, patient and respectful service. They work hard to keep wait times down to a minimum. You can expect a call the night before your appointment to confirm the time you will be picked up and the pick up/drop off location. Please let the drivers know of multiple appointments or any special accommodations that may be needed at that time. They often have multiple pick ups so we request veterans be ready and waiting on the agreed upon time. To assure everyone makes it to their appointments on time, the van will wait up to 5 minutes for a passenger before leaving. There may be a wait period before or after your appointment time to accommodate other passengers. Please read our policy for all the details of our transportation program.
What else do I need to know?,
It is highly recommended you read our transportation policy before riding; specifically "Veterans' Services Passenger Conduct Policy". If you choose to utilize our services, it is implied that you have read and agree to abide by our policy. Our policy covers expectations of our drivers and passengers. Please feel free to reach out to us at any time if you have any questions or concerns. Our office phone number is 517-546-6338.
Do I have any alternative transportation options?,
We will be piloting a new program with the Ann Arbor VA transportation service. The VA shuttle will depart our parking lot at 8:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. The last return trip will depart the VA at 4:00 p.m. All trips must be prescheduled with the VTS dispatcher at (734) 222-7145 no later than 4:00 p.m. the prior day.
